The figures below are the current base rates used by the BigDecks online estimator. They combine the selected deck surface with a standard ground-level substructure and installation. Your site, elevation, layout, and selected features determine the final scope.

Planning rates, not a binding quote. The estimator uses a $3,500 minimum project charge and displays a ±15% planning range.
The variables that move the total
Square footage and material create the starting point. The largest project-specific changes usually come from elevation, geometry, access, and features that require additional structure or fabrication.
- Decks above 24 inches: the estimator adds $19 / sq ft for elevated structure before selected options.
- Railing: pressure-treated wood is $57/LF, stainless cable is $138/LF, and custom steel/cattle panel is $185/LF along the open perimeter.
- Stairs: pressure-treated is $41, Douglas fir is $51, and premium hardwood is $92 per tread linear foot (tread count × finished stair width).
- Lighting: the standard low-voltage step-light package is $3,000 for up to 20 lights; line-voltage work is separate.
- Demolition: standard deck removal, haul-off and disposal is $5/sq ft; concrete, hazardous materials and difficult access are reviewed separately.
- Benches, pergolas, shade, skirting and trim: quoted after the site measure rather than estimated with an unsupported allowance.
- Site conditions: access, demolition, grade, drainage, utilities, permitting, and unusual structural requirements are confirmed on site.
How to compare deck materials
The lowest installed rate is not automatically the best fit, and the highest rate is not automatically required. The decision should follow how you want the deck to look, feel, age, and be maintained.
Pressure-treated pine
The value-focused route and the simplest way to move from bare yard to usable outdoor space.
Western red cedar and Douglas fir
Real-wood options with warm grain and multiple board profiles. BigDecks offers both wide-board and signature 4×12 builds.
Tropical hardwoods
Ipê, Cumaru, Garapa, and Massaranduba offer dense hardwood surfaces with distinct tones and installed rates.
Thermally modified wood
Thermory Kodiak provides a heat-modified real-wood option with a stable, rich appearance.
